How To Prepare for Your First Hyperbaric Session
Embarking on your first Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT) session is an exciting step towards health and healing. At Revivo, we understand that any new treatment can bring with it a mix of anticipation and nerves. To ensure you feel comfortable, informed, and ready for your HBOT journey, we’ve compiled a comprehensive guide to help you prepare for your first session. This preparation can enhance the therapy’s effectiveness and make your experience as smooth and beneficial as possible.
Before Your Session
- Consultation and Evaluation: Your journey will begin with a thorough consultation and medical evaluation with one of our HBOT specialists. This is crucial for tailoring the therapy to your specific needs and ensuring HBOT is safe and appropriate for your condition.
- Medical Clearance: Depending on your medical history, you may need clearance from your physician. This step is essential for individuals with certain health conditions that could affect their response to the increased pressure and oxygen levels.
- Understand the Process: Familiarize yourself with the HBOT process. Knowing what to expect can help alleviate any anxiety. Feel free to ask our team any questions you might have—we’re here to make sure you feel fully informed and comfortable.
Preparing Physically
- Clothing: Wear comfortable, loose-fitting clothes made of natural fibers (cotton is ideal) for your session. Revivo provides a 100% cotton gown for those who prefer it, ensuring your comfort and adhering to safety protocols within the oxygen-rich environment.
- Diet and Hydration: It’s recommended to eat a light meal and stay well-hydrated before your session. Avoid foods that might cause discomfort, such as those that are overly greasy, spicy, or heavy.
- Avoid Certain Substances: Refrain from using alcohol or tobacco products for at least four hours before your therapy. These substances can constrict blood vessels and potentially reduce the effectiveness of the oxygen therapy.
Day of Your Session
- Arrive Early: Aim to arrive a little early for your first session. This will give you ample time to relax, complete any necessary paperwork, and meet with the HBOT technician who will guide you through the process.
- Personal Items: Leave jewelry, watches, and electronic devices outside the chamber. These items are not allowed inside the hyperbaric oxygen chamber for safety reasons.
- Ear Pressure Management: Similar to taking off or landing in an airplane, you may experience changes in ear pressure during the session. Practice techniques for equalizing ear pressure, such as yawning or swallowing, and discuss any concerns with your technician beforehand.
During the Session
- Relaxation: Once inside the chamber, try to relax. You can listen to music, meditate, or even sleep. The session will last anywhere from 60 to 90 minutes, during which you’ll be monitored by our staff.
- Communication: You’ll be able to communicate with the HBOT technician throughout your session. If you feel uncomfortable at any time, it’s important to let them know immediately.
Post-Session
- Hydration: Drink plenty of water after your session to help flush any toxins from your body and stay hydrated.
- Note Your Experience: Pay attention to how you feel post-session. Keeping a journal of your experiences and any changes you notice can be helpful for both you and your HBOT team to track your progress.
