Multiple Sclerosis

Multiple Sclerosis (MS) is a progressive and/or relapsing inflammatory disease that affects the external, insulating covers of the brain and spinal cord nerve cells, disrupting their ability to communicate with other parts of the nervous system. The symptoms of multiple sclerosis vary between patients but may often include visual, sensory, and motor difficulties such as:

  • numbness, tingling, pins, and needles sensations
  • muscle spasms
  • exaggerated reflexes
  • muscle weakness
  • difficulties with movement, balance, and coordination
  • speech difficulties
  • problems swallowing
  • visual difficulties, including double vision and/or nystagmus
  • exhaustion
  • pain
  • psychological disorders (mood swings, depression).

The majority of patients may experience periods when their symptoms disappear completely, but in others, the neurological damage becomes systematically and progressively worse over time.

As with many neurological diseases, the specific causes of multiple sclerosis remain a mystery although genetic and environmental factors cannot be ruled out and research continues into whether viral and other infections may play a role in triggering the disease.

There is no cure for MS and treatment protocols and medication concentrate for the most part on relieving the symptoms, improving functionality after and during an attack, and preventing physical disability.

This is where Revivo’s Intensive Suit Therapy may play a role. This method in known to be effective in restoring and maintaining physical functionality in people with multiple sclerosis. Our skeletal body suit helps patients to maintain correct body posture and muscle tone while they perform a repetitive series of progressively more difficult exercises that are designed to challenge the vestibular system and restore correct movement patterns. Revivo’s intensive body suit therapy will also assist in extending the patient’s range of motion, and flexibility of joints and increase their muscle strength. In addition, the combination of the skeletal body suit and exercise may help with neurogenesis – retraining the brain to find other neural pathways to enable sensory processing and physical functionality.
